Nickel 200 / Nickel 201 (N02200 / N02201): composition, properties, fittings and flanges
Nickel 200 (UNS N02200, W. Nr. 2.4066) and Nickel 201 (UNS N02201, W. Nr. 2.4068) are commercially pure wrought nickels with a minimum of 99.0 % nickel including cobalt. The two grades share almost identical corrosion behaviour; the difference is carbon - 0.15 % maximum for Nickel 200 against 0.02 % maximum for Nickel 201. That…

Product forms available
Hangbo supplies this grade in the following forms. Sizes outside the listed range can often be produced to order.
- Plate, sheet and strip including deep drawing quality
- Seamless pipe and tube
- Forged flanges and rings to ASME B16.5
- Butt weld elbows, tees, reducers and caps to ASME B16.9
- Machined components to drawing
Typical applications
- Caustic soda evaporators, chlor-alkali cells and handling of molten caustic above 50 % concentration
- Food processing equipment, synthetic fibre spinnerets and soap manufacture vessels
- Reactors and vessels handling fluorine and fluorides
- Electronic anodes, battery cases, transistor caps and heating element supports
- Handling of dry halogens and alkaline salt solutions
- Aerospace and missile components requiring high purity nickel
Welding, forming and machining
- Welding
- Weld readily by GTAW, GMAW, SMAW and resistance methods using ERNi-1 filler. Keep the joint clean and avoid sulphur-bearing materials; no preheat required.
- Hot forming
- Hot work between 1200 °C and 650 °C with good plasticity; anneal at 705-925 °C and cool rapidly to avoid excessive grain growth.
- Machining
- The high nickel content produces a gummy chip. Use sharp positive rake tools, light feeds and generous cutting fluid for the best finish.
- Grade selection
- Specify Nickel 201 for any service above about 315 °C, or where the part will be carburised or heated in a carbon-bearing atmosphere, to avoid intergranular graphite.
