Seamless Tubes & Pipes frequently asked questions

How do you prove seamless tube integrity?
Every length is hydrostatically tested or eddy current tested to the applicable ASTM acceptance level, and the test pressure or calibration notch is recorded. Ultrasonic testing can be added for heavy wall or high consequence applications.
Can you supply U-bent heat exchanger tubes?
Yes. Tubes can be delivered U-bent to your radius with stress relieving after bending, plus eddy current retesting of the bent section and a fluorescent penetrant check.
What is the difference between ASTM B163 and B167?
B163 covers seamless condenser and heat exchanger tube with tighter dimensional control for tube-to-tubesheet joints, while B167 covers general seamless pipe and tube for pressure and general service.
Do you supply tube with PMI verification?
Positive material identification is offered on 100 % of lengths or on a statistical basis using handheld XRF, with readings reported against the certified ladle analysis.
Can you match tight ovality requirements?
Cold pilgered tube holds significantly tighter ovality and wall variation than hot finished product. Where the design demands it we quote specifically to cold finished tolerances.
What is the standard delivery length?
Random lengths of roughly 5 to 7 metres are standard; fixed lengths up to about 12 metres are available, and longer can be agreed for specific grades and sizes.
