Nickel 205 · UNS N02205

Nickel 205 (N02205): composition, properties, fittings and flanges

Nickel 205 (N02205) is Magnesium-bearing commercially pure nickel for electronics. Nickel 205 is specified at Titanium 0.01 - 0.05, Copper 0.15 max. Nickel 205 adds controlled magnesium and titanium to the Nickel 200 base, giving a much lower electrical resistivity and better resistance to high-temperature oxidation in…

  • Electronic and electrical contact components
  • Lamp and tube hardware, cathodes and anodes
  • Caustic and reducing chemical equipment
  • Spark plug electrodes and battery connectors

Welding, forming and machining

Welding
Weldable with ERNi-1 filler, though most Nickel 205 parts are small electronic components joined by resistance or brazing rather than fusion welding.
Heat treatment
Anneal at 705 - 925 °C in a protective atmosphere to avoid excessive oxidation of the magnesium-bearing surface.
Hot and cold forming
Hot work in the range stated by the mill for this grade, then re-solution or re-age before final machining so that the delivered condition matches the certificate.
Machining
Machine with sharp carbide or high-speed steel tooling, positive rake, constant feed and ample coolant. Never dwell - the surface work-hardens quickly.

Nickel 205 frequently asked questions

What is the chemical composition of Nickel 205?
Nickel 205 is supplied to the following composition limits: Nickel + Cobalt 99.0 min; Magnesium (Mg) 0.01 - 0.08; Titanium (Ti) 0.01 - 0.05; Carbon (C) 0.15 max; Manganese (Mn) 0.35 max; Iron (Fe) 0.20 max; Silicon (Si) 0.15 max; Copper (Cu) 0.15 max. Single figures are maximum limits unless shown as a range; the heat analysis on your EN 10204 3.1 certificate is the governing record.
Which specifications cover Nickel 205 flanges and pipe fittings?
Forged flanges and forging stock: To order against ASTM B160 / B564 chemistry. Butt weld elbows, tees, reducers and caps: Not normally supplied. Hangbo supplies to these specifications with dimensional compliance to ASME B16.5, B16.47 or B16.9 as applicable.
What is Nickel 205 normally used for?
The main uses are electronic and electrical contact components; lamp and tube hardware, cathodes and anodes; caustic and reducing chemical equipment. Buyers pick it where the alternative would be a lower alloyed grade that would not survive the service.
Can Hangbo supply Nickel 205 elbows, tees and flanges from stock or to order?
Yes. We forge and machine flanges to ASME B16.5 and B16.47, form butt weld elbows and tees to ASME B16.9, and supply matching seamless pipe, all from the same heat where required so that the whole spool carries one set of mechanical properties. Lead times depend on size and quantity - send the drawing or the line list for a firm quote.
